These days, an athlete often does one of two things when their career begins to catapult on the field and on social media:
Start a podcast
Launch a beauty brand
U.S. Olympic rugby star Ilona Maher and NCAA swimmer Ann Ragan Kearns launched a skincare line called Meadlist. Serena Williams launched Wyn Beauty after retiring from tennis. LeBron James has a line called The Shop. Namoi Osaka Kinlo started a skincare brand for melanin-rich skin called Kinlo. Many others started a podcast.
What’s more, beauty companies have been utilizing athletes in their campaigns and marketing materials.
NYX Professional Makeup became Angel City’s first cosmetics brand to sponsor the team just last year.
In 2023, Mielle partnered with the entire WNBA.
Glossier has been a consistent partner with the WNBA since 2020. They renewed and expanded their partnership with the league in March, 2024.
WNBA player Cameron Brink has partnerships with CeraVe and is a brand ambassador for Urban Decay.
Odele is a partner with the WNBA team the Minnesota Lynx, and Olay is a partner of the Chicago Sky.
Jalen Green partnered with Machine Gun Kelly’s Nails HVL LTD polish brand.
Tom Daley promoted Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation.
NBA player Jared McCain is a brand ambassador for Sally Hansen.
The list goes on and on, but it is clear that the intersection between sports and beauty is demand, especially when it comes to men. Men entering the beauty space has been increasingly popular in recent years. One unexpected person who has made a mark in the industry is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with his wellness brand, Papatui.
More on that ahead, but first:
Chappel Roan is known for her expressive and bold makeup looks. Recently, she silenced those saying she sleeps in makeup. “I absolutely do not sleep in my makeup, but peace and blessings to those girls!” Her response begs the question: Is it ok to sleep in your makeup? I tapped some trusty skin experts to put the debate to rest. “I never sleep in makeup! It clogs pores, causes acne, dries out the skin, and may lead to irritation,” esthetician Binjia Li says. “No matter how late it is or how drunk I am, I always remove my makeup, wash my face, and apply hydrating creams or a sleeping mask before bed.” Katie McGlade, President International at Thérapie Clinic wants you to know that “Calm, clean skin is the best foundation for any skin treatment or makeup look.” She recommends using a gentle gel based cleaner each night to wipe away all traces of make-up, excess oil, and the day's wear and tear, leaving your skin feeling soft and clean.
Laura Mercier has officially launched in the U.S. Amazon Premium Beauty store and is available to buy with Prime in the U.S. (P.S., did you know you can shop their products via a luxury beauty shopping app using the Apple Vision Pro??).
Reps for Starface tell me the brand is officially available in Ulta Beauty stores nationwide. This expansion builds on Starface’s proven track record of successful entries into CVS, Target, and Walmart. Starface has seen over 50% YoY growth across retail channels, allowing the brand to also expand internationally into the U.K. and Canadian markets, seeing tremendous response from new customers and followers.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson launches “Ageless Action Under Eye Patches”
It’s the newest product to fill the void in men's skin care.
On Tuesday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s men’s care brand, PAPATUI, launched the Ageless Action Under Eye Patches. Aimed to effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines, puffiness, and combat dark circles for revitalized eyes in just a few minutes.
The eye patches are made with the brands Ageless Action Technology, which uses their tried and true blend of Peptides, Ceramides, Upcycled Caffeine, and Niacinamide. Priced at just $12.99 for a pack of 6 pairs of patches, they are easy ways to help your eyes look years younger.
“Since launching PAPATUI in March 2024, we have seen men of all ages and all colors take better care of themselves by incorporating PAPATUI's higher performance products. I'm pumped to be adding another high-performance product to our PAPATUI line up with our new Ageless Action Under Eye Patches." Johnson continued, "At PAPATUI we're bullish on delivering high-quality, innovative, efficacious self-care products, and I can't wait to continue to grow the brand of PAPATUI and deliver even more great products to our consumers."
Unlike other eye patches, PAPATUI’s are pretty straight forward and most importantly, clean. Here are some key highlights:
Non-Fussy Design: While part of a men's care line, these patches are universally beneficial, the design appeals to anyone seeking performance under eye care.
Sustainable Ingredients: Emphasizing eco-friendly practices such as upcycled caffeine.
Unbeatable Value: Providing professional-quality results at a fraction of the cost.
Clean Formulation: Formulated without Sulfates, Paraben Free, Phthalate Free, Cruelty Free & Vegan.
Real Results: Utilizes a proven blend of Peptides, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, and Extracts to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles.
You can purchase the Ageless Action Under Eye Patches in an 18 count bundle ($39) or a package with 6 eye patches ($13) on PAPATUI’s website.
