These days, it’s up to brands to follow the trends and see what singers their customers are listening to, which actors they love to see on the screen, and what influencer is getting the most views and making some sort of impact on TikTok. One market many brands have been doing an A+ at focusing on are athletes—at the professional and collegiate level.
I recently wrote about the intersection of beauty and sports, highlighting how there’s always been a connection, but it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves. Beauty brands in particular are hoping on the packed train of investing in women athletes—and it’s paying off.
I could talk about the importance of amplifying women athletes in every possible way for days, but I really want to discuss Madison Reed’s new limited-edition product with UConn women’s basketball player Paige Bueckers.
More on that ahead, but first:
Before the new year, Glosslab filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company has now entered two asset purchase agreements. A hearing on both asset purchase agreements is set to be held today.
LoveShackFancy launches Love on the Beach, the brands fifth fine fragrance. It’s set to debut on Sephora’s app on March 20 before becoming available in LoveShackFancy’s retail locations.
Lady Gaga’s Jellyfish hair cut got a major chop. It’s now a bob. While the entire hairstyle is an interesting choice, I think she looks amazing with the new hairdo.
Platelet-rich plasma can apparently help those experiencing balding. The treatment involves blood centrifuged and injected into their scalps. Fun!
Establishment Labs announced Meghan Trainer as their brand partner. The news comes after the singer recieved a breast augmentation with Motiva Implants. "Self-confidence and body positivity are so important to me. After losing a bunch of weight and having two kids, I have always struggled loving my breasts because they were never even. I've been dreaming about getting this done for so many years. Once I learned about the recent FDA approval of Motiva Implants®, I knew this was the perfect time for me," Meghan shared in a statement.

And they’re teaming up with the star of the team and brand ambassador, Paige Bueckers on the brands first-of-its-kind hair color. The name of the new hair color? UConnic Blonde.
This limited-edition shade of Madison Reed’s ColorWonder Demi-Permanent Hair Color is inspired by Paige’s blonde hair color, plus her values of self-expression and empowerment. The shade is a cool beige-blonde with ash tones. This is the first time a beauty brand has created a signature hair color shade with a woman athlete. Clearly Madison Reed knows which direction to go in marketing-wise.
"I wanted to create a blonde as cool and iconic as UConn's fans and send a message that confidence doesn't mean looking a certain way, it means expressing yourself authentically. I'm all about showing up as myself and not putting myself in a box – I can have pink hair one day and go back to my blonde another. My blonde hair color feels true to my journey here and something I wanted to share with the world as my first beauty collaboration," Paige said in a statement.
Early this basketball season (early fall) Madison Reed announced a partnership with UConn athletics, which was unveiled alongside their Team ColorWonder campaign. Paige and her teammates Azzi Fudd, Ice Brady, and Morgan Cheli serve as the faces of the campaign.
Paige also serves as the brands Impact Advisor. Because of this, Madison Reed is “proud” to make a $10,000 donation to UConn Women’s Basketball Team. Additionally, the duo will donate a portion of the sales to Good Sports, Inc. — an organization that drives equitable access in youth sports and physical activity by supplying youth organizations in high-need communities with the sports gear necessary to cut overhead costs and help children stay connected to their communities.
This exciting partnership comes just a few months before Paige is expected to be picked at the number one spot by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She’s currently finishing up her fifth season at UConn.
“As I approach this next chapter, personally and professionally, I'm grateful to Madison Reed for the opportunity to join their team and learn through this product development process and for giving me, and so many others, the confidence to express the different sides of myself authentically.”
