U.S. Alpine Skier Lauren Macuga on Taking Care of Her Skin After Hitting the Slopes
"Finding my routine has really helped me to feel my best because when I feel great, I compete great!"
There’s an intersection between beauty and sports that I am aiming to write more about this year. Luckily, I had the opportunity to chat with U.S. Alpine Skier, 2025 World Cup Winner, and Saatva Ambassador, Lauren Macuga, about how she unwinds and takes care of her skin as a professional athlete. Check out our conversation below!
Q: What do your beauty and wellness rituals look like before heading into a competition or practice? Do these help you feel more confident or prepared to perform your best?
A: The morning before competing, I like to take a moment to get ready for the day. I have this scented oil that helps calm me so I can focus on what I want to accomplish and set my mind for the race! I also really enjoy music in the morning before competing. This helps me focus on just myself and not let any outside influence affect my game that day.
Q: What about after? How do you take care of your body and skin after sweating and competing at the highest level? Do you use any specific products?
A: After a long day at the gym or on the slopes, our bodies go through a lot. We can be sweating all day, working hard, or wearing a helmet and googles all day. So I like to use Oribé to help keep my hair happy and healthy on and off the slopes. I have recently started using Borghese for my facial routine. Finding my routine has really helped me to feel my best because when I feel great, I compete great!
Q: How does getting beauty sleep at night help with your overall performance? Can you tell when your body isn’t rested enough?
Sleep is super important to me! Before competing, I make sure I read to calm the mind and get to bed early, knowing we have an early wake-up! With our schedule, we can be up and busy 7 hours before competing and need to be able to stay focused all before competing, and then be able to put on our best performance. A huge part of ski racing is the mental side of it, and without a good night’s sleep, it can be detrimental to our race, so I always try to make sure I give myself the ideal sleep environment.
To help her sleep, she uses products such as the Saatva Latex Pillow, Saatva Silk Eye Mask, and the Saatva Signature Mattress Pad.
